UGC NET June 2025: Your Path to Assistant Professorship and Junior Research Fellowship

0

The National Testing Agency (NTA), on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC), is set to conduct the National Eligibility Test (NET) in June 2025. This examination serves as a crucial benchmark to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for positions as Assistant Professors or for the prestigious Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) combined with Assistant Professorship eligibility within Indian universities and colleges, specifically for subjects within the humanities disciplines.

About the National Testing Agency and the NET June 2025 Examination

The National Testing Agency (NTA) was established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) as a premier, specialized, autonomous, and financially independent organization. Its primary mandate is to conduct entrance examinations for admissions and the awarding of fellowships in various higher education institutions across India.

On behalf of the UGC, the NTA will administer the upcoming National Eligibility Test (NET) from June 21, 2025, to June 30, 2025. This examination is designed to ascertain the eligibility of Indian citizens for Assistant Professor roles and for the combined award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and eligibility for Assistant Professor for the academic year 2025 onwards. Furthermore, the NET score is also a criterion for admission to Ph.D. programs across a diverse range of 85 subjects. The outcome of a candidate’s performance in both papers of the NET in aggregate determines whether they qualify for JRF and Assistant Professor eligibility or solely for Assistant Professor eligibility. It is important to understand that candidates qualifying exclusively for Assistant Professor are not eligible for the JRF award. The regulations governing the recruitment of Assistant Professors in the respective universities, colleges, and state governments will apply to those who qualify for this eligibility through the NET. The NTA will conduct this examination in the offline OMR (Pen & Paper) mode, comprising two papers with 50 and 100 questions, carrying 100 and 200 marks respectively.
