The swift response of Slovak PM’s security team following his shooting incident
Today, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot and taken to the hospital following a cabinet meeting in Handlova. Footage from the scene shows his bodyguards escorting him into his armored car.
The daily newspaper Dennik N, whose journalist witnessed the prime minister being helped into a vehicle by his security team, reported that the alleged shooter has been apprehended by the police, according to AFP news agency. Eastern European media outlet NEXTA, citing local sources, posted on X that the Prime Minister had been shot multiple times.
“He was shot in the abdomen and head. He’s in critical condition,” stated NEXTA in the post. EU leader Ursula von der Leyen expressed her condemnation of the “despicable assault” on Robert Fico.
“I vehemently denounce the despicable assault on Prime Minister Robert Fico. Such violent acts are unacceptable in our society and they threaten democracy, our most valuable shared asset. My thoughts are with PM Fico and his family,” von der Leyen stated on X.
Slovak President Zuzana Caputova expressed her strong disapproval of the “violent and thoughtless” assault on the Prime Minister. “I am taken aback. I extend my wishes for Robert Fico to gather immense strength in this crucial time to recuperate from the assault,” she stated, describing it as “a violent and thoughtless attack”.
