Vacancies: A Breakdown of Opportunities

BHEL has announced a substantial number of vacancies for both Engineer and Supervisor Trainee positions.

Engineer Trainees: A total of 150 positions are available, distributed across several specializations: Mechanical Engineering (70), Electrical Engineering (25), Civil Engineering (25), Electronics Engineering (20), Chemical Engineering (5), and Metallurgy Engineering (5). The age limit for these positions is 27 years as of February 1, 2025, with a relaxation to 29 years for candidates holding a postgraduate degree. Reservations are in place for various categories, including Unreserved (UR), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PWD). The required qualification is a full-time Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Technology, a five-year integrated Master’s degree, or a dual degree program in a relevant engineering discipline.
Supervisor Trainees: BHEL is recruiting 250 Supervisor Trainees. The distribution across disciplines is as follows: Mechanical Engineering (140), Electrical Engineering (55), Civil Engineering (35), and Electronics Engineering (20). The age limit is 27 years as of February 1, 2025. Similar to the Engineer Trainee positions, reservations are available for various categories. Applicants must possess a full-time regular Diploma in Engineering with a minimum of 65% marks in the relevant discipline.

Compensation and Career Progression:

BHEL offers competitive stipends and pay scales for trainees.

Engineer Trainees: During the training period, trainees will receive a basic pay of ₹50,000 within the pay scale of ₹50,000 – ₹160,000. Upon successful completion of training, they will be absorbed into the pay scale of ₹60,000 – ₹180,000 with a basic pay of ₹60,000.
Supervisor Trainees: Trainees will receive a basic pay of ₹32,000 in the pay scale of ₹32,000 – ₹100,000 during training. After successful completion, they will be appointed as Supervisors in the pay scale of ₹33,500 – ₹120,000 with a basic pay of ₹33,500.

Selection Process: A Two-Stage Approach

The selection process for both Engineer and Supervisor Trainees involves a two-stage process:

Stage I: Computer Based Examination (CBE): All eligible candidates will be required to take a Computer Based Examination (CBE), tentatively scheduled for April 2025.
Stage II:
- Engineer Trainees: Based on the CBE scores, candidates will be shortlisted for an interview. The final merit list will be determined by assigning a 75% weightage to the CBE score and a 25% weightage to the interview score.
- Supervisor Trainees: Following the CBE, shortlisted candidates will undergo Document Verification/Scrutiny. Candidates must successfully clear both stages to be considered for the final merit list.
